University Gynecologic Oncology Associates provides a comprehensive, compassionate and individualized approach to the care and management of gynecologic malignancies. The practice's clinical team is on the leading edge of treatment for cervical, uterine, ovarian, vaginal, vulvar and primary peritoneal cancer.
 
Our team members are highly skilled in the most state-of-the-art technology and techniques, including minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgeries that allow patients to return to normal activity more quickly than with traditional therapies.
 
A full range of treatments are offered, from standard therapies to innovative treatment options, and new options are being explored every day. Many women benefit from chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery or a combination of these therapies. As part of the clinic, you will receive the newest treatments available for gynecologic cancer, including: 
 
  • Clinical trials (GOG, Pharmaceutical)
  • Standard chemotherapy
  • Intraperitoneal chemotherapy for advanced ovarian cancer
  • Intensity modulated radiation therapy

MEET OUR TEAM

 

Nicole Burrows, MS, PA-C, is a certified Physician Assistant in the section of Gynecologic Oncology at Rush University Medical Center and is the acting Supervising Physician Assistant.   She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Calvin College and graduated from Rosalind Franklin University with a Master’s of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. 

 

Summer Dewdney, MD, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Gynecologic Oncology at Rush University Medical Center.  Dr. Dewdney completed her residency at the University of Chicago and her Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Dewdney's clinical interest includes:  cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, gynecologic cancer, minimally invasive procedures, obesity, ovarian cancer, pelvic surgery, robotic surgery, gynecologic, uterine cancer, uterine disorders, vulvar cancer, and women’s health.
 
Dr. Dewdney has had multiple publications, and her research interests lie in robotic, minimally invasive surgery, endometrial cancer, obesity, ovarian cancer, and quality measures.
 
Dr. Dewdney serves as the Cancer Liaison Physician for the Commission on Cancer, and also serves on a national committee for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology. She is also a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
 

 

 

 

 

Alfred Guirguis, DO, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Gynecologic Oncology at Rush University Medical Center.  Dr. Guirguis completed his residency at Rush University Medical Center and did his Fellowship at Magee-Women’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.  As a proponent of taking a comprehensive approach to women’s health, Dr. Guirguis' research interest include: molecular and gene profiling for gynecologic cancers and clinical outcomes. His clinical expertise are gynecologic, ovarian and uterine cancer.

Dr. Guirguis completed his boards in both Gynecologic Oncology and Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He also serves on the Rush Department of Gynecology Quality Improvement Committee, Rush University Medical Group Quality Improvement Committee, Rush Cancer Committee and is Co-Chair of the Clinical Trials Committee for the Rush Cancer Institute.

Dr. Guirguis is also a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologist and the Gynecologic Oncology Group.

Theresa Schafer Nuestro MMS, RD, PA-C, is a certified Physician Assistant in the section of Gynecologic Oncology at Rush University Medical Center. Theresa has been practicing in the field of gynecology for several years. She received her undergraduate degree in nutrition and dietetics at University of Illinois at Chicago and completed her Masters in medical science at Midwestern University.

Jacob Rotmensch, MD, is The George D. Wilbanks Professor of Gynecologic Oncology and the Director of Gynecologic Oncology at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Rotmensch received his training in obstetrics and gynecology and gynecologic oncology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.  He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the specialties of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. 

His research interests include the use of innovative methods and technology for the screening and treatment of gynecologic malignancies. His clinical interests include clinical trials, radiation therapy and development of new treatment modalities. He is also interested in improving patient outcomes in developing countries and has participated in international work.

 

He has authored or co-authored more than 125 original medical and basic science papers and contributed to chapters of several textbooks.  His clinical research activity has gained national and international recognition. Dr. Rotmensch is committed to clinical excellence, research and education.

 

Margaret Wilson, MMS, PA-C, is a certified Physician Assistant in the section of Gynecologic Oncology at Rush University Medical Center.  She received a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Brain, Behavior and Cognitive Sciences from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and graduated from the Physician Assistant Program at Northwestern University in Chicago with a Master of Medical Science.
